As a Citrix Ready partner, Unidesk has been working with Citrix to support this vision by providing a solution that simplifies application management, while increasing operational agility and enabling a streamlined cloud migration strategy for the digital workspace.
How the Unidesk solution works:
Unidesk separates applications from the OS and infrastructure as independent virtual disks (i.e. “layers”) to greatly simplify application lifecycle and image management. Create a single OS layer and then create a catalog of applications in their own layers, just by installing your apps as you would on a regular desktop. Once you’ve done this, you no longer have to painstakingly create images or re-install apps by hand to deliver apps through Citrix XenApp or XenDesktop. You select the App Layers you want your XenApp or XenDesktop users to access and Unidesk will automatically deliver them in real-time at user login, or as part of an image before machine boot.
Layered ImagesTM: Unidesk is the only application management technology that can package every component of a Windows workspace – including the OS itself – as a virtual disk “layer.” This unique capability can be used to eliminate image management inefficiency in Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop environments. Citrix admins can generate as many of these “Layered Images” as they want, but they only have to patch the Windows OS layer and app layers once, instead of once for every silo, vDisk, or delivery group. Unidesk will update the Layered Images and push them out again through integration with Citrix Provisioning Services and Machine Creation Services.
Elastic LayeringTM: Elastic Layering is Unidesk’s new “hot-add” technology that attaches app layers at user logon to XenDesktop virtual desktops and XenApp sessions. Users logging onto the same XenApp server can now have different apps delivered to their published desktops based on Active Directory user and group membership. This new technology gives customers more options when deciding whether to deploy XenApp or XenDesktop, since XenApp shared hosted desktops can now deliver one-off and departmental apps to individual users, much like XenDesktop virtual desktops.
Microsoft Azure and Hybrid Cloud Support: The rekindled partnership between Citrix and Microsoft was big news at Synergy 2016. Citrix has selected Microsoft Azure as its preferred and strategic cloud for all future products.
Unidesk’s award-winning layering technology brings unprecedented efficiency to the management of Windows applications and images. This innovation creates a new standard for administering VDI with XenDesktop, and published desktops and applications with XenApp, hosted on-premises or in Microsoft Azure. For true “package once, deliver anywhere” flexibility in your Citrix deployment, it’s time to look at Unidesk.
