Network speed for a hosted desktop

By Tristan Hough

Rumor has it that expenses in the travel infrastructure in UK will rise. This is bad for business. What other people are saying is that if the internet connection speeds were a lot better than what they are now, the need to travel would be a lot less. Whether you are attending an important meeting, having to travel is very time consuming. You can do a lot in an hour’s time, travelling makes it difficult for you to be productive.

Today’s announcement in the budget about the additional finance (£100 million in the largest cities and £50 million for smaller towns) will be made available. This is wonderful news for organization that wants to gain the upper hand by looking into the internet and cloud services available today.

A Hosted Desktop with full IT management and support service will allow businesses to gain the advantage they need from their competitors.

A lot of cities today bid their share of a £100m “super-connected cities” subsidy; this is to ensure that access to 100mbps internet connection speed. This was announced by Chancellor George Osborne, some critics say that the chancellor’s national internet strategy as “half-hearted”.

A lot of people might not really agree with this, I for one support the change that is being introduced, although I feel that they could do better. Our main focus is that we can provide better services for the current clients that are successfully running Hosted Desktop Solutions. A lot of accounting firms confirm that our existing compliance software on a hosted desktop goes beyond the performance they expected it to have.

Online Britain, wouldn’t that be nice? It has a nice ring to it, right? One of the things about online Britain that I’m excited about is the introduction of 4G network. After being able to observe this in the US, it really does offer better internet connection speed, and the sooner it‘s introduced the better.

We already have clients that utilize iPad’s app called iTap to access their hosted desktop solution. One firm’s accountant actually completed a tax return on a golf course with an available 3G connection. Imagine that, you are now able to mix business with pleasure. This accountant’s work would have gone a lot faster if the internet speed were a lot faster, 4G perhaps?

This is great news for all accountants as they will have less time wasted on WIP and get their bills out a lot quicker. This is just one of the many amazing business benefits that you get from increased internet speed.
