CAANZ X Newcastle Law Society Business Luncheon: Event Recap

Last week, Myrtec was thrilled to take part in the CAANZ X Newcastle Law Society Business Luncheon. Our team was very proud to sponsor the illustrious event alongside our good friends at Monica Clare Recruitment and Jenkins Legal Services.

Hosted at Newcastle’s infamous Merewether Surfhouse, it was the perfect location to lunch and network with one hundred of the Hunter’s leading lawyers, accounts, recruiters, IT specialists and individuals from many more industries.

During the luncheon, we heard from two incredible speakers.

First up was Stephen Crowe (Peter), Executive Manager Corporate Affairs at Newcastle Airport. Stephen shared with us the airport's strategy to execute the $66 million worth of upgrades that were granted by the Federal Government earlier this month. The airport estimates that the upgrade will generate around 4,400 new jobs, bring 850,000 visitors to the Hunter region and add $12.7 billion to the local economy across the next 20 years.

Next, we heard from Daniel Thomlinson, an Australian veteran and Paralympian. Damian shared the story of how he lost both of his legs while battling on the front line as an Infantry soldier in Afghanistan. Facing terror and coming out triumphantly, Daniel went on to compete for Australia in the Paralympics then compete on Survivor Champions. The message that Daniel wanted everyone to take away from his story is that as human beings we are most adaptive than we realise, and with the right mindset we can tackle anything.

The Myrtec team are very thankful to have had the opportunity to take part in such an illustrious luncheon and we invite the wider community of Hunter business professionals to come along next year for an even bigger event.

"The CAANZ x Newcastle Law Society Business Luncheon allows for likeminded individuals to meet and develop a community of professionals who can call upon one another. Meeting others and hearing from those who have shown tremendous resilience and come out triumphantly is invaluable to my ongoing professional development and I can't wait to attend again next year."
