The increased reliance on technology in modern organisations has heightened the need to put in place measures to control the use of technology within the business environment.

The inappropriate use of technology in the work environment can have a detrimental impact on employee productivity (Facebook anyone?), data integrity and the security of intellectual property. In extreme cases, misuse of corporate infrastructure has even led to illegal activity such as cyber-bulling and sexual harassment.

Despite these potential outcomes, many companies fail to provide employees with a clear definition of the organization’s expectations in regards the misuse of IT resources.
