Connecting with the NFP sector
Submitted by Alison on 20 June 2012 - 11:52am
There are some great people doing some great things in the Hunter.
I had the pleasure of meeting quite a few of them yesterday morning at the monthly breakfast meeting of Hunter NFP Connect. Created by the delightful Grace McLean from the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children, the group is a support base for those working in the not-for-profit sector in the Hunter region. Through building relationships with each other, members of this sector provide support, share ideas and help celebrate each other's successes.
I could only guess the total value of fundraising dollars generated by those in the room. Their overall contribution to the community and the impact of their fundraising efforts is immeasurable.
There is a lot that we in the private sector can learn from our friends working in NFP organisations. It really is about doing more with less and maximising the outcomes generated from the available, and often limited, resources.
During the breakfast meeting, we discussed LinkedIn and some strategies to make the most out of this free (and quite simply, fabulous) resource. I'm delighted to see that many members of the group are already putting these tips into practice and Hunter NFP Connect now has it's own LinkedIn group!
On a final note, I'd encourage any business out there to touch base with the group and discover ways that you can contribute to their efforts. After all, they are supporting the community in which we live and work - let's show our appreciation!
